Wow...that was a scare about three weeks ago when I woke up and could hardly move without feeling a sharp pain in my lower back. All I could think about is the past year working as a retail book representative doing very physical work and never once hurting my back because I was extra careful. I was rolling book carts weighting 400-700 pounds and never once hurt myself. What happens was I purchased a generator form home depot to re-store our electricity turned off by our utility company...why just because they could. Yes that is right, they decided after a two year dispute over our rental property in Rockford they would just move the disputed amount to our personal resident and shut off our lights, for what turned out to be three days. The long story short on this was the electric meter they were supposedly reading and charging us for on a continuous basis wasn't even functioning, as was confirmed by one of their field technicians. After being notified that the meter was not working they were going to do us a favor and give us a credit for the amount but needless to say we said. don’t think so and very soon a check was in the mail. All this has nothing to do with my fear of really doing serious damage lifting that heavy generator the wrong way. I don't ever remembering hurting my back that bad before and I seriously hope I never do it again. It happen about three years ago I almost hurt my back while moving the book racks up a 45 degree angle into the back of a truck. Instead of asking for help I decided I could do it and found my self midway up the ramp attending to push the rack with my lower back and not my legs as you are suppose to do. I did not have a back support or anything of that nature so it could have turned out really bad but I truly believe that was a message to me to be a lot more careful in the future if I was going to do mobile book fairs for a living.
